Trump Calls for Boycotts of MLB and ‘Woke’ Sponsorship Companies

Former President Donald Trump has called upon Major League Baseball fans to boycott the organization over its decision to move the 2021 All-Star Game and draft out of Atlanta. In a statement Friday, Trump accused MLB leadership of being “afraid of the Radical Left Democrats.”

The controversy stems from MLB commissioner Rob Manfred’s decision to move the All-Star Game and MLB Draft after a new voting law was passed in the state of Georgia. In a statement, Manfred said after “thoughtful conversations with Clubs, former and current players, the Players Association, and The Players Alliance” the “best way to demonstrate our values as a sport is be relocating this year’s All-Star Game and MLB Draft.”

The voting bill passed along party lines in both chambers of the state legislature and was signed into law by Georgia’s Republican governor Brian Kemp last week. The law calls for changing rules and processes for requesting absentee ballots, including that voters must present valid forms of photo identification.

Additionally, the law regulates the use of drop boxes, which were implemented to assist in COVID-19 safety protocols. Critics claim the law makes it more difficult for voters to exercise their constitutional right to vote. Manfred said the MLB “fundamentally supports voting rights for all Americans and opposes restrictions to the ballot box.”

Trump wrote, “baseball is already losing tremendous numbers of fans, and now they leave Atlanta with their All-Star Game because they are afraid of the Radical Left Democrats who do not want voter I.D., which is desperately needed, to have anything to do with our elections.” Trump addressed boycotting the sponsors as well. “Boycott baseball and all of the woke companies that are interfering with Free and Fair Elections…are you listening, Coke, Delta, and all!”
