Trans Activist Defends Call To ‘Accost’ Supreme Court Justices During Congressional Hearing

During a House hearing on Tuesday, Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) questioned Alejandra Caraballo, a far-left transgender activist, over the activist previously saying it is “our civic duty to accost” the Supreme Court Justices who voted to overturn Roe v. Wade.

The exchange occurred during a House Oversight and Reform Committee hearing on “The Evolution of Anti-Democratic Extremist Groups and the Ongoing Threat to Democracy.”

Mace first asked if rhetoric on social media was “a problem and a threat to our democracy.” All the witnesses answered, “yes.”

She then asked if “rhetoric targeting officials with violence for carrying out their Constitutional duties is a threat to democracy.” All the witnesses again answered, “yes.”

Mace then asked Caraballo, the transgender activist, about her tweets targeting the Supreme Court Justices who voted to overturn Roe v. Wade. Mace noted that the tweets were made shortly after an attempted assassination of the Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh based on the overturning of Roe.

“The 6 justices who overturned Roe should never know peace again,” Caraballo tweeted at the time. “It is our civic duty to accost them every time they are in public. They are pariahs. Since women don’t have their rights, these justices should never have a peaceful moment in public again.”

“I have a question … yes or no: Do you believe your rhetoric is a threat to democracy when you’re calling to accost a branch of government, the Supreme Court?” Mace asked.

“I don’t believe that’s a correct characterization of my statements,” Caraballo claimed.

“Did you not tweet that?” Mace asked. “That you thought Supreme Court justices should be accosted?”

Caraballo continued to claim that Mace directly quoting Caraballo were not a correct characterization of what the activist said.

“It’s clear to me that we have to call out the threats to our democracy emanating from where they come, whether it’s the Right or the Left,” Mace said. “I look forward to working with anyone, Republican or Democrat … to address these threats from within and without, and I look forward to inviting more people who actually know what they’re talking about to our witness panels in the 118th Congress.”
