SCOTUS investigation ‘unable to identify a person responsible’ for decision draft leak
A Marshal’s report revealed that the investigation into the leaking of a Supreme Court document draft has been “unable to identify a person responsible by a preponderance of the evidence.”
On May 2, 2022, media outlet Politico published a draft of the controversial Supreme Court decision of Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization. A decision for the case would eventually overturn Roe v. Wade; a leak was unprecedented and dangerous leading to public outcry and protests, including at the Justices private homes.
After the leak, Chief Justice John Roberts announced he had called upon thee Marshal of the Court to begin an investigation. Hoping to find one or more culprits who leaked the document to Politico seems to have been unsuccessful.
Fox News reports:
An investigation by the U.S. Supreme Court has failed to identify the culprit who leaked a draft Court decision that signaled the overturning of Roe v. Wade, the landmark 1973 ruling that legalized abortion at the federal level.”
Over the summer sources had said the investigation would initially focus on roughly three dozen law clerks who work directly with the justices. “Those clerks were asked to turn over their phones,” reports Fox News.
