SAY WHAT? Chicago Teachers Union tweets, deletes reopening schools is ‘rooted in sexism, racism, and misogyny’

In a since-deleted tweet, the Chicago Teachers Union – which represents more than 28,000 educators in the nation’s third largest city – made the outlandish claim that reopening schools is “rooted in sexism, racism, and misogyny.”

After removing the politicized message, the union followed up by citing nuance.

“Fair enough. Complex issue. Requires nuance. And much more discussion. More importantly, the people the decision affects deserve more. So we’ll continue to give them that. Appreciate the feedback of those truly in the struggle.”

Chicago schools, which have been closed since March, plan to reopen in early 2021. But, parents may opt-out and have their children continue with remote learning if they choose.

Chicago is not the only city struggling with the idea of reopening schools. Educators across the country are reluctant about going back to work, even as remote learning continues to take a toll on students = mentally, physically and emotionally.

Despite the hesitation, CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield has said that for K-12 students, school is one of the safest places they can be amidst the pandemic. Similarly, Dr. Anthony Fauci has urged schools to reopen or stay open – following appropriate safety protocols – because they are considered a low-risk environment, BizPacReview reports.

“K through 12 schools can operate with face-to-face learning, and they can do it safely and responsibly,” Redfield said. “The infections that we’ve identified in schools, when they’ve been evaluated, were not acquired in schools. They were actually acquired in the community and in the household,” he added.

Teachers’ unions are among the Democrats biggest supporters. Rather than advocate for schools to remain closed citing health concerns – or put education first – the left strikes again by pushing a ridiculous political agenda.

The claim makes little sense. How is wanting children to return to school racist, sexist or misogynistic?

If anything, it would be more accurate to say keeping schools closed is racist and misogynistic because those struggling the most with closures are women – many of whom have been forced to quit their jobs to care for their children – and inner-city minority families that rely on the public education system.

This kind of insane and divisive attitude is hurting children across the country.
