Rep. Crenshaw’s Former Opponent Insults His Eye Lost In War
After Rep. Dan Crenshaw (R-TX) called out failed presidential candidate Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) for making false claims on Twitter, failed congressional candidate Democrat Elisa Cardnell insulted Crenshaw while referencing the eye he lost fighting for his country.
Cardnell launched a very unsuccessful bid for Rep. Crenshaw’s House seat in 2020, coming nowhere near winning the Democrat primary for the district. Cardnell likely felt a sense of comradery and loyalty to Warren, as they both lost their respective elections so dramatically, causing her to insult the war hero who won his election overwhelmingly.
“The reason you can’t see the objective truth isn’t because of your eyes; its because how far you have your nose up your Dear Leader’s a$$,” Cardnell tweeted.
“Actually it’s just ‘eye,’ singular,” Crenshaw replied.

Crenshaw lost his right eye a decade ago in an explosion in Afghanistan during his third deployment. His left eye was also severely damaged and required surgery and began having problems again earlier this year.
“People are, like, ‘well, he definitely lost one eye but at least he has the other one.’ That’s actually never been true. I’ve always had a really badly damaged one eye,” Crenshaw said. “Back in January, I had some flashes off to the corner of my vision. Imagine looking at a screen too long and maybe some distortions associated with that … that blinking, that’s sort of what I saw.”
“I was really confronted with permanent blindness this time because a retinal detachment is very, very dangerous,” Crenshaw added.
Describing his current vision, Crenshaw said, “Wear a dive mask, put some bubble bath in it and rub the lenses with Vaseline and that’s sort of what I see.”
Crenshaw also added that the tragedies he endured were something to be expected when signing up to protect American lives. He said, “Is something hard, yes? Is it hard compared to what? In compared to who? What they had to deal with? You know, that should stiffen your spine sometimes.”
