Rand Paul: Fauci’s Resignation Will Not Protect Him From Investigation Into Pandemic’s Origins

On Monday, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) responded to the news that Dr. Anthony Fauci would be resigning from his government positions in December, saying that Fauci would still testify before Congress over the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Fauci’s resignation will not prevent a full-throated investigation into the origins of the pandemic. He will be asked to testify under oath regarding any discussions he participated in concerning the lab leak,” Paul wrote on Twitter.

Earlier that day, Fauci announced that he would be resigning from his positions as the president’s top medical adviser and as the director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases this December.

“I will be leaving these positions in December of this year to pursue the next chapter of my career,” said Fauci.

“It has been the honor of a lifetime to have led the NIAID, an extraordinary institution, for so many years and through so many scientific and public health challenges,” he continued. “I am very proud of our many accomplishments. I have worked with – and learned from – countless talented and dedicated people in my own laboratory, at NIAID, at NIH and beyond. To them I express my abiding respect and gratitude.”

Fauci’s announcement follows numerous polls over the last year showing that the majority of Americans thought he should resign. For example, according to a Hill-HarrisX poll conducted in October 2021, 52 percent of registered voters felt Fauci should resign.
