Police officer buys food for family caught shoplifting

Officer Matt Lima was called to a grocery store in Somerset, Massachusetts where two women were reportedly scanning some – but not all – of their groceries at a self-checkout kiosk.

But, instead of arresting them, he decided to pay for their food.

Shortly before Christmas, the family said they were experiencing hard times and could not afford to pay for all of their food, but still wanted to provide a nice meal for their children.

Lima served when with a “no trespass” order, then bought them a gift card worth $250 so they could buy the items needed for Christmas dinner at another store location.

He did so out of the kindness of his own heart.

“The two children with the women reminded me of my kids, so I had to help them out,” Lima said in an interview with WPTV.

“They were very thankful, they were kind of shocked. I’m sure a lot of people in that same situation would be thinking that there was going to be a different outcome, and maybe they would be arrested or have to go to court,” he added.

“I bought the gift card close in value to what would’ve been taken.”

He said that he felt for the family and did what he felt was right.

“I just did what I felt was right,” he said. “It’s not about me, I just tried to put myself in that family’s shoes and show a little bit of empathy.”

This act of kindness is what America is all about. So, thank you Officer Lima. Please know that most of us salute you and are not at all about defunding law enforcement.

    God bless you.

A fine example that most officers care about the community and people they serve. Considering the modest incomes of law enforcement officers, this was a most generous gesture and in my mind should be given a community hero award. Sadly, most mainstream liberal media will not cover this story.

Heartwarming, God’s work. Often Law enforcement offices help ppl but we don’t hear about it.

Just remember, the cop was entirely wrong. He was not there to enforce his feelings or morals. He was there to enforce the law. When cops don’t even enforce the law, why does anyone expect anyone else to obey or enforce the law. Yeah, kind of him. Yeah, heartwarming Storyline. But in a society crumbling due to lack of law and order…. the cops not even setting the example. Fire him!
