Mitch McConnell Claims Republicans ‘Number One Priority’ Is Providing Aid To Ukraine

On Tuesday, Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) claimed that the number one priority for most Republicans is for the United States to continue sending aid to Ukraine.

“Making sure that the Defense Department can deal with major threats coming from Russia and China, providing assistance for Ukrainians to defeat the Russians— that’s the number one priority of the United States Right now, according to most Republicans,” McConnell claimed.

“That’s sort of how we see the challenges confronting the country at the moment,” McConnell said.

However, the top priority for Republicans – and registered voters – is the economy, according to recent polling.

In two polls conducted by CNN ahead of the midterm elections, the economy was found to be the top concern.

“In the first poll, nine in 10 registered voters said they considered the economy at least very important to their vote for Congress, with 59% calling it extremely important,” CNN reported. “And in the second poll, 51% of likely voters said the economy and inflation would be most important to them in their congressional vote, far outpacing any other issue.”

Additionally, support for aid to Ukraine has been falling among Republicans. As reported by The Hill reported in November, “48 percent of registered Republican respondents said that they believe the U.S. is doing too much to help Ukraine fend off the invasion from its neighbor, up from only 6 percent earlier this year.”
