Man Who Wanted To Kill Kavanaugh Was Upset About SCOTUS Plan To Overturn Roe

The armed man who allegedly wanted to assassinate Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh was released was reportedly motivated by the recent leak Supreme Court’s majority opinion intending to overturn Roe v. Wade.

“Two people familiar with the investigation said the initial evidence indicates that the man was angry about the leaked draft of an opinion by the Supreme Court signaling that the court is preparing to overturn Roe. v. Wade, the 49-year-old decision that guaranteed the constitutional right to have an abortion,” The Washington Post reported.

Roske told FBI special agent Ian Montijo that he intended to kill Kavanaugh and then commit suicide. According to The Washington Examiner, the FBI agent said that Roske told “the detective that he was upset about the leak of a recent Supreme Court draft decision regarding the right to abortion as well as the recent school shooting in Uvalde, Texas. Roske indicated that the Justice that he intended to kill would side with Second Amendment decisions that would loosen gun control laws.”

“Roske stated that he began thinking about how to give his life a purpose and decided that he would kill the Supreme Court Justice after finding the Justice’s Montgomery County address on the Internet,” the FBI agent continued. “Roske further indicated that he had purchased the Glock pistol and the other items for the purpose of breaking into the Justice’s residence and killing the Justice as well as himself.”

Last month, a draft of the Supreme Court’s majority opinion aiming to overturn Roe v. Wade was leaked to Politico.

In the draft, Justice Samuel Alito writes that “Roe and Casey must be overruled. The Constitution makes no reference to abortion, and no such right is implicitly protected by any constitutional provision, including the one on which the defenders of Roe and Casey now chiefly rely—the Due Process Clause of the Fourteenth Amendment.”

“Roe was egregiously wrong from the start,” Alito added. “Its reasoning was exceptionally weak, and the decision has had damaging consequences. And far from bringing about a national settlement of the abortion issue, Roe and Casey have enflamed debate and deepened division.”
