Defunding Is Out, Refunding Is In: Minneapolis Approves More Funding to Police to Combat Crime Surge

The Epoch Times reports that multiple cities are backtracking on a call to arms to defund the police in the wake of the Black Lives Matter movement. Not surprisingly, the very liberal cities that supported the defunding movement have quickly experienced a surge in crime levels.

A negative plus a negative doesn’t equal a positive; i.e., liberal policies pandering to progressivism plus defunding those who protect from said liberal policies does not equal peace, love and happiness.

Minneapolis’ Democratic leadership has been proudly screaming from the rooftops how supportive they are of so-called “progress” systemic change and defunding racist establishments.

What they haven’t been vocalizing is the fact that only months ago, the Minneapolis City Council “voted to approve $6.4 million more in funding to the police department, coming after a number of councilmembers last year pledged to completely abolish the department” writes the Epoch Times.

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, a Democrat, “announced this month that his city is building a police precinct in Queens to deal with a spate in rising crime – coming months after he pledged to cut $1 billion from the NYPD’s budget” reports the Epoch Times. In actuality, “the city has cut far less from the police department than the pledged $1 billion.”

Minneapolis’ Democratic Mayor Jacob Frey said “the violence needs to stop; it’s unacceptable…People deserve to feel safe in their neighborhood, they deserve to be able to send their kids out to the sidewalk to play and to recreate without bullets flying by. That’s unacceptable. We should be holding these perpetrators accountable.”

The word “perpetrator” has been used to vilify policemen for an entire year. Finally, Frey blames the activists who called to defund the police. “When you make big, overarching statements that we’re going to defund or abolish and dismantle the police department and get rid of all the officers, there’s an impact to that” said Frey. Welcome to planet earth, Mayor Frey.

Some lessons have to be learned the hard way. Defunding police is absurd. A few lousy cops doesn’t define all cops. Most cops are good, caring people. And if BLM and others want to stir the pot by professing that ‘black lives matter’, there are way more people who feel that all lives matter including the lives of cops. Blacks don’t want to be defined in a negative way for those among them who break the laws…well, guess what…no one want to be lumped into that negativity. Re-fund the police across the nation, et some gumption and lay down the law. You don’t like it? Move.
