Cops Save Mother’s Day: Finish Flower Deliveries After Driver Arrested for DUI
Many California mothers have the fine officers of the Fairfield Police Department to thank for receiving their beautiful flowers to celebrate Mother’s Day. At around 12:30 pm officers were dispatched for a minor collision. Once on scene, the driver at fault tried to leave and officers arrested him on suspicion of DUI, and he was booked into Solano County Jail.
Officers towed the vehicle but found “eight to 10” bouquets destined for delivery. “Luckily, the delivery manifest, with addresses and a schedule, was found inside the vehicle” and “several officers then pitched in to complete the deliveries on that special day for mothers, motherhood, maternal bonds, and the influence of mothers in society” reports Mercury News.
Photos of the officers’ actions made Bay Area TV newscasts Sunday evening and the story went viral. Speaking to Fox and Friends, Lt. Jausiah Jacobsen called the incident a “very minor fender bender” which “unfortunately that ended up resulting in the person that was at fault, being very intoxicated, ultimately got arrested for the DUI.”
Jacobsen added, “when the officers were doing the inventory for the vehicle, they realized, ‘whoa, there’s a whole bunch of bouquet’s and chocolate in the back of this SUV.” After talking to the driver, they found out he was a flower delivery driver.
Deciding what to do “was very natural, it was cool to see from an administrator, a boss level, the officers took it on their own” and took it upon themselves to geographically divide and conquer the deliveries and successfully completed the task in under an hour and a half. Jacobsen said many of the recipients didn’t know they were receiving flowers, but to have them hand-delivered by officers was an extra little surprise.
