Colorado Latest State To Join Popular Vote Compact As Battle Ramps Up

States that join the Compact agree to award their electoral votes to the winner of the popular vote

The popular vote has become incredibly popular among Democrats, a measure they have doubled down on since Hillary Clinton’s loss to President Trump in 2016 when she won the popular vote. As a result of last week’s elections, Colorado is the latest state to decide to join what has been dubbed “the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.”

States that have joined the Compact agree to award their electoral votes to the winner of the popular vote. 15 states and D.C. have already joined the pact, which currently accounts for 196 electoral votes. The magical 270 electoral votes do still have a place in the Compact.

“That 270 matters: The states that have approved legislation to join the compact agreed it would not take effect until the 270 threshold is reached. Once it does, those states will have the power to use their Electoral College votes to elect a winner, according to the popular vote” writes NBC News. “This uses the Electoral College to effectively phase out the Electoral College, though it would not apply to states that do not sign up.”

The notion of an amended voting process brings both critical and favorable opinions. Sylvia Bernstein, the coordinator for the Yes on National Popular Vote campaign believes this “shouldn’t be a partisan issue.” The reason is “pretty simple” she says. “The candidate with the most votes should win, just the way it happens in every other election in this country.”

Bernstein also said it would force candidates to campaign across the entire country and not be compelled to focus on swing states. “Right now, we see both candidates hunkered down in Pennsylvania. You know, Pennsylvania has nothing to do with Colorado or California or Texas.”

Opponents of the concept, however, say a National Popular Vote would result in many states being forced to cede power. “The presidential election is the only election we have where states sovereignty and the state’s population is combined for one voice,” said the mayor of Monument, Colorado, Don Wilson, who is a Republican and co-founder of Coloradans Vote.

So does this mean if say Colorado popular vote went to party A but overall popular vote went to a party b that Colorado would cast all of their electoral votes to party B? Eliminating electoral college effectively ensure mob rule by a handful of large urban centers. No way is that representative democracy.

Why would any state voluntarily give up their wishes to states with large majority of the population? It makes no sense unless you are a democrat and want the big states make decisions for your state… You will essentially have no say in the election. No sense in votine because you will not be able to control any vote…

    DUMB IDEA!

The founding fathers knew that cities with the largest populations would determine the outcome of elections by having the majority of the votes. This “pact” makes the people who live in rural areas bow to majority rule. California and NY have more corporate interests than farmers in Idaho and the Dakotas.

There should be legislation written to block sovereign states from imposing their political bias on other states.

Unbelievable. Our founding Fathers are far smarter and forward thinking than many of the Dems give credit. If this happens those of us in “flyover” country will have no say in the presidential election and it will be dominated by the coastal elites.

This is no differ t than doing away with the Electoral College. This will go to the Supreme Court I’m sure.

The way the Electoral college is detailed in the
US Constiution protects smaller states from being bullied by large states. That is the point.
So. Is that legal? Does Colorado US House representatives and US Senators plan to change the US Constitution?

This is being pushed by the Democrats because it gives them an advantage.

Then, all it will take is one or two corrupt states to commit fraud to win elections. They will add as many ballots as they need to to win the popular vote and instead of those bad apples being ‘quarantined’ by the Electoral college, they will infect the entire Nation. This is a coup plot, and it’s supporters can be divided into two camps; morons & and evil geniuses. THIS MUST BE STOPPED

What are the 15 states. Have these states already gone to Biden? Any states that went for Trump that would overturn because of this stupid pact?

This would give States that join power over States that do not join. My opinion is that this is unconstitutional.

If California allows a million non-citizens to vote then this would be leveraged across the nation? Is this the intent?

Article 1, Section 10. Constitution of the United States.
“No state shall, without consent of Congress… enter into any agreement or compact with another state.

Then audit California where even though it’s a majority for the Dems it gives them the biggest lead in popular votes. New some sent millions of ballots out. I personally know four people that got two ballots. Once you audit California you may take that popular vote down considerably.

Gotta believe this will be challenged in the Supreme Court if it were true or ever happen! Sure it is not constitutional! Beside it would cause another civil war as small states would secede from the US.

I live in Colorado. I am 61 years old and have never missed voting in an election. If this passes, I will never vote again. Why bother? NY and California will decide for us. That is how the popular vote works. The electorial college was devised so every state could have a say. Colorado is half republican. Because of the urbanites who vote democrat we conservatives never are heard. They need to split the electorial votes in this state. It never passes, but now we are giving our vote away to big states who control the popular vote. This is garbage and UN American. Useless idiots who voted for this. I hope it comes back to you and bites you in the ass. The fraud in 2020 election is sickening
We are supposed to believe that Trump who fills stadiums loses to a gaffe machine who can’t fill up a restroom? How stupid do you think we are? I put up with Obama and didnt like it, but Biden will never be my president. Of course he won’t last long with Kamala chomping at her bit to take his place. God have mercy on this country and bless President Donald J. Trump our real President.
