CNN tells Americans they are getting $100-a-month raise at the gas pump

Gas Prices

CNN had the audacity to tell Americans they should feel like they are “getting a raise” these days at the gas pump. Luckily, the internet showed no mercy to the delusional and elitist comment.

“Next time you stop at a gas station, think of it as a $100-a-month tax cut. Or a maybe $100-a-month raise” the media outlet’s official Twitter account boasted. The post links to an article foolishly titled “America just got a $100-a-month raise.”

The very first line in the article states: “next time you stop at a gas station, think of it as a $100-a-month tax cut. Or a maybe $100-a-month raise.” CNN’s justification is this pathetic statement:

Since hitting a record of $5.02 a gallon on June 14, the national average price for regular gas is down $1.10, or 22%, to $3.92, according to AAA. That average has now fallen for 67 consecutive days.

Since the typical US household uses about 90 gallons of gas a month, the $1.10 drop in prices equals a savings of $98.82.

CNN was, rightfully so, roasted on social media. “Next time I’m at the gas station I’ll think of it as filling my gas for whatever amount I’m paying” wrote one Twitter user with too much common sense to be hired as a writer for CNN.

“Bro what if it was 305 dollars a gallon??? Just imagine you got a 10k pay raise bro” another user wrote, pointing out the obviously ridiculous argument CNN put forward.

“Let’s be clear: The national average price per gallon is $1.52 higher than when Trump left office,” Rep. Steve Scalise (R-LA) tweeted. “That’s a 64% INCREASE in gas prices under Biden—not a ‘cut,’ as CNN wants you to think. No one is falling for the delusional propaganda the radical left is peddling.”

“CNN just makes it so easy for its critics,” Brian Riedl, senior fellow at the Manhattan Institute, tweeted. “This is some next level gaslighting.”
