Biden Energy Secretary: ‘We Don’t Know’ If ‘Climate Change’ Caused Florida Building Collapse

During a CNN interview, Biden administration Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm said “we don’t know fully” if “climate change” is responsible for the building collapse in Florida.

“Do you think that climate could have played a role in that building’s collapse?” a CNN anchor asked.

“Well, obviously, we don’t know fully, but we do know that the seas are rising,” Granholm replied. “We know that we’re losing inches and inches of beach — it’s not just in Florida, but all around.”

“Michigan, where I’m from, we’ve seen the loss of beaches because the waters are rising,” she falsely claimed. The Lake Michigan water levels have been within a range of about 6 feet since scientists started keeping track in 1918.

Granholm added, “We’ll have to wait and see what the analysis is for this building, but the issue about resilience and making sure that we adapt to this changing climate — that’s gonna mean levies need to be built, that means sea walls need to be built, that means infrastructure needs to be built.”

The condominium building collapse in Miami last week resulted in at least 11 deaths and over 150 people missing. A 2018 engineering report warned that the building had a “major error” in its design that allowed water to pool near its base that would to increasing deterioration over time.

Granholm’s statement comes the month after Vice President Kamala Harris claimed climate change is the “root cause” of the border crisis, revealing an apparent strategy of the Biden administration to blame unrelated problems on climate change.

At the time, Harris blamed climate change caused “catastrophes” for the Biden administration’s inability to handle the border crisis, despite the fact that the number of major hurricanes has not increased since the industrial revolution, with the top three decades for category five hurricanes being, in order, the 2000s, 1930s, and 1960s. Additionally, a University of Cambridge study found that since 1900 there has been “no change in the frequency or severity of extreme weather events.”
