Biden Administration Shut Down Trump-Era Investigation into Wuhan Lab Theory

Calling the novel coronavirus the Wuhan virus because it originated in Wuhan, China was absolutely racist and asinine, cried Democrats when it was uttered by Trump. But alas, he was correct. Moreover, Democrats thwarted Trump’s ability to even look into the origins of the virus.

CNN reports, “President Joe Biden’s team shut down a closely-held State Department effort launched late in the Trump administration to prove the coronavirus originated in a Chinese lab over concerns about the quality of its work, according to three sources familiar with the decision.”

Trump’s Secretary of State Mike Pompeo reportedly began the inquiry in the fall of 2020, “seeking to establish whether the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) had been using a lab in Wuhan to research COVID-19 and similar diseases.

A State Department spokesperson said the Biden administration’s decision to terminate the inquiry came from the State Department’s arms control and verification bureau after Biden officials were briefed on the team’s draft findings.

CNN reports “questions were raised about the legitimacy of the findings and the project was deemed to be an ineffective use of resources, explained a source familiar with the decision.”  Sources “involved in the Trump-era inquiry” however, reject “criticisms over the quality of their work and told CNN their objective had been to examine scientific research and information from the US intelligence community which backed the lab leak theory and shone more light on how it could have emerged in the lab.”

A State Department spokesman did confirm that the Trump-era inquiry had stopped, but insisted, “Even though this discrete project has concluded, the State Department continues to work with the interagency to look into the COVID origins issue
