Atlanta city councilman and moral candidate Antonio Brown may be re-evaluating his aggressive defund the police stance, as he very much is in need of police right now. Brown’s 2016 Mercedes 450 SUV was stolen as he was campaigning.

Oh, the irony; Brown’s campaign is running on “reimagining public safety.” In his support of “public safety” Brown is one of seven council members who voted in support to withhold $73 million of the Atlanta Police Department’s budget until Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms’ administration came up with a plan to “reinvent the culture of policing.” The ordinance, however, was narrowly voted down.

The police report shows after Brown parked his Mercedes, he got out to speak to someone in the parking lot, when “several males entered his unlocked car and drove away with it.” In a phone call with The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Brown said the thieves appeared to be kids and one of them “acted as though he had a gun.” Brown said he held onto the car and was dragged about a block down the road before they went faster and faster and he was forced to let go.

Brown himself is under indictment on several fraud charges, reports the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Reportedly Brown lied about his income on applications to obtain loans and credit cards used for personal purchases. The alleged incidents occurred years before he won the council seat in 2019.

According to the Atlanta Police Department’s most recent crime data, homicides are up at least 52% from this time last year, while the number of shootings has increased more than 40%.
