Armed Suspect Killed After Attempting To Breach FBI Office In Ohio

An armed suspect attempted to break into the FBI headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Thursday, and has been killed by law enforcement.

“At approximately 9 AM this morning an armed subject attempted to breach the Visitor Screening Facility at #FBI Cincinnati,” the local FBI office shared on Twitter. “After an alarm and a response by FBI special agents, the subject fled north onto Interstate 71.”

The suspect was wearing body armor and carrying an AR-15-style rifle, officials said. He reportedly fired a nail gun into the FBI building and attempted to breach the visitor’s entrance around 9 am.

According to The New York Times, “After fleeing, the man headed north on Interstate 71, officials said, where he was spotted about 20 minutes later by a state trooper at a rest area. That trooper began a chase and came under gunfire, said Lt. Nathan Dennis of the Ohio State Highway Patrol.”

“The chase eventually left the interstate and snaked along rural roads before coming to a stop near an Interstate 71 overpass close to the city of Wilmington. Lieutenant Dennis said gunfire was exchanged. Roads were blocked off for several hours but had reopened by late afternoon,” The New York Times added.

Lieutenant Dennis reportedly said that law enforcement officers tried negotiating with the suspect during an hourslong standoff before trying to take him into custody using “less-than-lethal tactics.”

However, the suspect raised his gun, prompting law enforcement officers to shoot him. No law enforcement officers were injured, Lieutenant Dennis said.
