The FBI is getting slammed by critics for releasing a new video of the January 6th “pipe bomb suspect” who placed a pipe bomb outside of the headquarters of the Democratic National Convention (DNC). According to RedState, critics are calling out the FBI as a “joke” amid what the agency says is a “renewed call” from the public to identify the suspect almost four years after the incident.
According to RedState, the FBI wrote,”As part of a renewed call for tips from the public, the FBI posted on its ‘Seeking Information’ webpage previously unreleased video of the suspect placing one of the bombs near the DNC and announced that it estimates the suspect to be approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall. A reward of up to $500,000 is available for information leading to the individual’s arrest and conviction.”
David Sundberg, assistant director in charge of the FBI Washington Field Office, explained why the information is being released now: “The tips the FBI has received so far have helped us advance the investigation, but they have not led us to identify the suspect,” he said. “Today, we are releasing additional information about the suspect—including that we estimate the person to be approximately 5 feet 7 inches tall—to encourage the public to take a fresh look at the Seeking Information webpage and contact the FBI if they recognize or have information about the suspect.”
Commentary on X shows a frustration with the bureau amid the release of the video.
Sean Davis of The Federalist wrote, “Your entire agency is a joke.”
Another critic wrote on X, “Really strange how y’all were able to identify 1500 people who even so much as walked on the Capital grounds on January 6th, but you can’t find the person who planted the pipe bomb?” adding, “No one’s buying it.”
The timing of the release of the clip showing the suspect placing the pipe bomb outside of the headquarters was also questioned by writer Rusty Weiss, who wrote in the RedState article, “A clip of the suspect dropping the actual pipe bomb outside the DNC seems like it might have been handy evidence if they genuinely wanted the public to identify this person.”
