On Wednesday, Senator Marco Rubio (R-FL) slammed calls for Israel to agree to a longer ceasefire with the Hamas terrorist organization – which attacked Israel last month and killed more than 1,200 civilians – when being confronted by an anti-war activist.
In a video posted to social media, Medea Benjamin — an activist and co-founder of the radical leftist anti-war organization Code Pink — stopped Rubio in a hallway and asked if he would call for a ceasefire.
“No, I will not,” Rubio replied. “Are you guys filming this? I want you guys to get this. I want Israel to destroy every element of Hamas they can get their hands on. These people are vicious animals who did horrifying crimes, and I hope you guys post that.”
Benjamin continued to press Rubio, asking him, “What about the civilians being killed every day?”
“I blame Hamas. Hamas should stop hiding behind civilians,” Rubio said. “Hamas knew that this was going to lead to this, so Hamas has to stop building their military installations underneath the hospital.”
“So you don’t care that 15,000 have died, you don’t care about the babies that are getting killed every day?” Benjamin asked, referencing a claim from Hamas-affiliated sources that has been disputed.
“I think it’s terrible, and I think Hamas is 100% to blame … make sure you post that please,” Rubio said before walking away.
