On Tuesday, Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) warned that Dr. Anthony Fauci may still be working for the U.S. government in order to have legal protection for his alleged role in covering up the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic.
“There is a massive coverup going on and the lead in all of the coverup has been Fauci,” Paul said. “We now have information that he is still working for the government even though he says he is retired. It is my belief that he is worried about being indicted and so he continues to work so he will get legal protection under the federal government. But this is wrong on every level of it and we are going to get to the bottom of it.”
“We are sending a letter to find out what the actual status of his employment is. Is he retired? Is he still getting a federal detail? There is a lot of stuff going on, but at the top of every sort of concern we have it is Tony Fauci,” Paul added.
Paul’s comments come amid allegations that Fauci worked to shut down the theory that COVID-19 leaked from a Chinese lab because the National Institutes of Health, under Fauci, funded the lab that likely leaked the virus.
These allegations picked up momentum earlier this year after a report from the Wall Street Journal in late February revealed that the “Energy Department has concluded that the Covid pandemic most likely arose from a laboratory leak.”
“The Energy Department now joins the Federal Bureau of Investigation in saying the virus likely spread via a mishap at a Chinese laboratory,” the outlet added. “The Energy Department’s conclusion is the result of new intelligence and is significant because the agency has considerable scientific expertise and oversees a network of U.S. national laboratories, some of which conduct advanced biological research.”
