White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stormed out of a press briefing after being confronted by reporters for her false statements last week about President Biden’s classified documents scandal.
Jean-Pierre had falsely told reporters multiple times during Friday’s press briefing that a thorough search for classified documents in Biden’s possession had been completed and that all classified documents discovered had been accounted for and disclosed to the public.
The following day, White House lawyer Richard Sauber announced the discovery of an additional five mishandled classified documents found in Biden’s possession in a statement.
“While I was transferring it to the DOJ officials who accompanied me, five additional pages with classification markings were discovered among the material with it, for a total of six pages,” Sauber said. “The DOJ officials with me immediately took possession of them.”
A reporter asked Jean-Pierre about her erroneous statements on Tuesday, saying, “Do you feel badly that you gave out false information?”
Jean-Pierre refused to answer the question and moved to another reporter.
“Are you upset that you came out to this podium on Friday with incomplete and inaccurate information? And are you concerned that it affects your credibility up here?” another reporter asked Jean-Pierre.
“Well, what I’m concerned about is making sure that we do not politically interfere in the Department of Justice, that we continue to be consistent over the last two years, and — and that is — continue to refer you all, when it comes to an ongoing process. And — and I’ll just leave it there. And let’s not forget — there was actually a statement from the Counsel’s Office that you all had at the same time as well,” Jean-Pierre responded. “I’m — I’m just not going to go down any rabbit hole here. I’m going to be very consistent. I’m going to be very prudent.”
Near the end of the press briefing, the issue was raised again.
“You told us something six times that turned out to be false. Are you sorry about that?” a reporter asked.
Jean-Pierre refused to answer the question and stormed out.
“I’ll see you tomorrow. Come talk to me. I’ll see you tomorrow,” she said.
